Akko 3098N Mechanical Keyboard Review
This is my first ever mechanical keyboard, so I can’t really compare it to others on the market, but the Akko 3098N is definitely a huge step up from the generic big box store models I’ve used in the past.
The 3098N is a multi-modal mechanical keyboard, measuring approximately 382 x 134 x 40mm and weighing in at approximately 1.1kg (approx. 2.4lbs). It’s definitely heavier than what I’m used to, but that’s not a bad thing. The 3098N has a weight and sturdiness to it that feels reassuring as I clack away.
Beyond that, it can connect to computers in three different ways: wired directly via 2.4 Ghz USB, wirelessly via USB, or via Bluetooth. This is especially convenient for my setup, as most of my USB ports in my PC are already occupied. Having the option to connect via Bluetooth, or to switch to wired when the keyboard needs a charge is great.
Its battery capacity is 3000mAh, and uses a Type-C to USB charging cable, which comes with the keyboard. The cable is a bit tricky to plug in due to its extremely fitted slot, and I’m not sure how easily interchangeable it would be with other Type C cords because of this. But your mileage may vary there, depending on how willing you are to mess with it.
The 3098N is also sleek and has blended pretty seamlessly into my mostly black and white desk space. The review unit I received is black, grey, and yellow, and comes with yellow keycaps you can switch the grey ones out for. The whole thing is backlit by rainbow LEDs, which are kind of neat, but don’t quite match the more monochromatic palette of the keyboard. That said, it does match the red LEDs in my PC, so I can’t complain too much on that front.
While I don’t know that this is going to ignite a deep love of mechanical keyboards and their workings or anything, I am happy to have tried this out, and the Akko 3098N feels like a good place to have started. It’s comfortable and feels like an investment in my setup that will last me a while.
