Here’s What to Expect from the Future of Play

It’s showcase season, and things are absolutely popping off. There has been an absolute avalanche of different conferences to watch and speculate on, but one that has particularly caught my eye is Glitch’s Future of Play Direct. There’s a lot packed into this show, from rad titles that have already dropped, to brand new announcements.

Glitch has a Toonami-inspired Vtuber

Your new favorite gaming personality is here, and her name is Melios. She’s an AI Vtuber directly inspired by Toonami’s Tom and she’ll be your presenter for the Future of Play Direct. The Direct is “inspired by the quintessential hype machine that was Toonami,” and Melios embodies that perfectly.

Virtuoso Neomedia, the studio behind upcoming Zodiac XX Leo, has taken the grand stage, announcing two additional retro anime-inspired titles: Radminton and Killer Auto. Additionally, they’re partnering with multiple noteworthy games composers like 2 Mello and Christa Lee.

Hyperdot comes to PlayStation

Tribe Games’ hit minimalist multiplayer title is coming to PS4 and PS5, so more folks than ever will be able to play! Hyperdot was Glitch’s first big success as a publisher, and has allowed both Glitch and Tribe Games to continue growing.

Next project from Analgesic

Sephonie title screen

The creator of the Anodyne games has announced Analgesic Productions’ next project: Sephonie. It’s a platforming and exploration game that features three different player characters. We should be seeing it some time this year.

New game from Perfect Garbage

Loveshore developers Perfect Garbage are announcing their next project, Hellbent. It’s a side-scrolling beat-em up about skater punks taking on demons and being rad while doing it. There’s no release date yet, but with Loveshore on the horizon we can probably expect it after this year.
